Structure Mechanics Corporation is a twenty five year old company that designs, manufactures and markets high performance centrifugal clutches. 

The purpose of a clutch is to accommodate the difference in rotational speeds of the engine and the driven wheels.  A high performance clutch performs more efficiently in order for the engine to pass more power to the road.  Kart racing is an extremely competitive motor sport where the difference between winning and losing might be as little as one thousandth of a second. Almost any clutch will propel a kart down the road but few clutches are capable of winning a close contest.

SMC has a two part philosophy that empowers your racing success and our business success:

1. The design of a modern racing clutch is far more difficult than it appears.  Kinematics, heat transfer, metallurgy, stress and vibration are some of the complex engineering challenges involved.  It's a full time passion.  We do not divide our attentions by building chassis, bodywork, engines pit buggies, tire prep etc.  SMC manufactures only clutches. That's how SMC clutches became dominant.  We will retain that position with continuing research and development.  We have more patents than any other similar company. More patents are forthcoming.
2. High performance clutches are also high maintenance.  We are particularly mindful of that as well as the fact that clutch wear occurs at the race track not in the kart shop.  Therefore, SMC clutches are designed to be completely and quickly serviced at the race track, by the racer with only simple tools.
